A Neighborhood Fair for the East Side

The other big open fair on our Houston calendar this month sits west of downtown, on the Katy Freeway. This one is aimed squarely at the other side of town: North Channel, Sheldon, Cloverleaf, Channelview and the neighborhoods that feed the Ship Channel's plants, terminals and the warehouses strung along Beltway 8. If your commute already points east, the employers who show up on Uvalde Road are the ones hiring for the jobs you can actually get to.

Workforce Solutions describes the fair as open to people just entering the workforce, recent graduates and anyone ready for a change, with opportunities across multiple industries. The job seeker registration page is run with an event producer, DarnaldJr Productions, and lists Century Fire Protection 360 as the title sponsor.

⚠️ What We Could Not Confirm

No employer roster has been published, and neither the organizer's announcement nor the registration page names the industries in the room. That is common for a workforce-board fair a week and a half out. If one specific company is the only reason you would go, check the registration page again closer to the date, or call your nearest Workforce Solutions office before you take the morning off.

Head for Building 17, the Science and Allied Health Building. Parking is free.

📋 Prep Sessions Before the Fair

Workforce Solutions is running two hour-long prep workshops at the North Channel Branch Library, 15741 Wallisville Road, in the same week: one on building a resume step by step, one on showing up interview ready, with mock interview practice. They run Tuesday, October 6, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and again Wednesday, October 7, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., the evening slot for people working days. Register for a workshop session. Tuesday is tomorrow, so move on it now.

For the fair itself the organizer's advice is short: bring several copies of your resume and dress professionally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the North Channel Job Fair free?

Yes. Workforce Solutions Gulf Coast lists it as free, and the job seeker registration is free as well.

Do I need to register?

Registration is requested through the organizer's Eventbrite page. Neither page says walk-ins will be turned away, but signing up takes two minutes and gets you any updates.

Where exactly is it?

San Jacinto College North, Building 17, the Science and Allied Health Building, at 5800 Uvalde Road, Houston, TX 77049. Parking is free.

Who can attend?

Anyone looking for work. The organizer pitches it to first-time job seekers, recent graduates and career changers alike. You do not need to be a San Jacinto College student.

Which employers will be there?

None have been named publicly. The registration page lists Century Fire Protection 360 as title sponsor, but that is a sponsorship, not a hiring announcement.

Don't Let the Fair Be Your Whole Search

A fair puts you in front of the employers who came that day. Create your free LocalJobPage account and set alerts for Houston openings so the next posting reaches you first, and browse the Houston Career Center for what these jobs pay and what employers here screen for.

Employers: hiring on Houston's east side this fall? Post your openings on LocalJobPage and reach job seekers from North Channel to Baytown every day, not just one Wednesday.
