What Google Is Opening at The Galleria
This is not a pop-up kiosk. According to Google's own store page, the Houston location will sell the full hardware lineup, run a service desk for software problems and cracked screens, take trade-ins from most brands, recycle old devices and handle buy-online, pick-up-in-store orders. It will also host free workshops on getting more out of Google devices.
Tech outlets covering the announcement count it as Google's 11th store in the United States and its 12th worldwide. Real estate reporting earlier this year pegged the build-out at roughly 4,500 square feet and about $2 million, based on a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
The Galleria's directory places it on Level 2 near Galleria Financial Center. If you are driving in for an interview or a first look, the Yellow Parking Garage off Westheimer is the closest entrance.
💼 What Kind of Jobs a Store Like This Runs On
Google has not published a headcount for Houston, and we are not going to guess one. What we can describe is the shape of the work, because a store with a repair counter and a sales floor needs both kinds of people.
Expect customer-facing specialists who sell and demo devices, technicians who diagnose and fix phones at the service desk, people who run pickups, inventory and the stockroom, and a management layer. Hours stretch to 9:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, so evening and weekend availability will matter.
The skills carry over. If you have sold phones at a carrier store on the Southwest Freeway, worked a big-box electronics counter in Meyerland or done help-desk tickets in an office tower off Post Oak, you already speak the language. Retail tech experience also travels well around The Galleria, which holds hundreds of retailers just outside the 610 Loop.
📋 How to Get Ready Before Postings Go Up
- Lead with device skills. Put phone setup, troubleshooting, data transfer and repairs high on your resume, with numbers if you have them.
- Show customer service, not just sales. A service desk lives on patience and clear explanations.
- Be honest about availability. Nights, weekends and the holiday rush are when new stores need people most.
- Check back after opening. New stores often adjust staffing once they see real foot traffic in the first couple of months.
